تمہاری اصل ہستی تمہاری سوچ ہے
باقی تو صرف ہڈیاں اور خالی گوشت ہے

Translation: You are your thoughts, the rest of you is bones and fibres.

I had to put it in Urdu because I felt it might lose its magic if not presented in that way. However, thoughts are an integral part of our life, instead, I would dare to say that thoughts are our life. By thoughts, I mean the beliefs, ideas, and notions that we hold in our head while roaming around the garden. Decisions that we make, every step that we take, everything is influenced by our thoughts and here comes the scary part, our thoughts are products of our life experiences and the society we are surrounded by.

Although a large portion of our thoughts is developed during our childhood, in which we are not smart enough to question the ideas we are fed with. However, later in life when we become a little smart and a bit critical, we can challenge those previously held beliefs and ideas. One of the notions that most of us hold is “I am, what I was, and I will be the same in future”, surely, it is a fixed mindset, but this thought can be challenged and changed. To do that, Amal has shared a few tips with us. I will be sharing a quick overview here.

1. Self-Talk

Start by pressing your negative thoughts, thoughts that stop you from growing. Try to treat yourself the way you want others to treat you and be easy on yourself.

2. Stepping over the comfort zone

After you have fought with your negative thoughts, now you must put your thoughts to work. Challenge your limitations and try to do things that scare you (Please don’t jump over a building roof).

3. Creating new habits

Train your brain to adapt to new things, the easiest way is to develop new habits. It would be perfect if you write your learning on daily basis.

4. Ask people help

Up till now, you will have put a lot of effort, so now is the time to put some work on other’s shoulders. Ask others for feedback, what change they have noticed in you and try to work if you need improvements.

5. Fake it till you make it.

Surely, this process is not easy, initially, it will be discomforting, awkward, and fearful so fake being confident and being at ease with this change.

These were a few tips for developing a growth mindset. My favorite one is getting out of my comfort zone. I have started working on it and I hope to get better with it in the future.
